2004 Dodge Durango Review
Now with larger dimensions and greater power, 2004 Dodge Durango measures 3 inches
longer in wheelbase, 7 inches longer overall, close to 5 inches wider, and almost
400 lb heavier than the former models. These additions are meant for added carrying
capacity. It is available in three models, ST, SLT, and Limited either in rear-wheel
drive or all-wheel-drive systems. Three engines can be used including the new
3.7-liter V6, the ever powerful 4.7-liter V8, and the newly optional 5.7-liter
Hemi V8 with 85 more horsepower than the largest previous engine.
The new Hemi power enable the car to tow up to 8950 lb. V6 models come with 4-speed
automatic transmission while V8s have 5-speed automatic with tow/haul mode. The
recent model is designed to compete with the ever-powerful SUVs including Ford
Explorer, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Sequoia, GM's Tahoe and Yukon and Nissan’s new
Armada. However its spacious cargo is a stand-out feature as compared to its competitors.
Cargo space can be maximized up to 102.4 cubic feet with all seats folded and
68.4 cubic feet with folded third row seats. This new feature is called Fold and
Tumble third-row seat for easy access to the cargo room. Easy entry and access
is provided by its easy to open rear doors that can be opened widely up to 84
degrees from the body. Compared with the former models, the interiors are now
improved for greater convenience
although the materials used still need further improvement including the contrasting
pillars and headliner that gives a hodge-podge look and the unmatched grains and
glosses in the dash top.
